By the time I spotted you outside the bar, you’d done most of the work for me. The wall was holding you up, and still, you swayed. There was no one around, meaning either your friends ditched you or you didn’t have any to begin with. A poor, lonely man who’d indulged too much was exactly what I was looking for.
I walked up to you slowly, with a soft smile on my face. I asked if you were okay, and you tried to answer, but the words came out all slurred together, and your eyes could hardly open enough to focus on me. I propped you up against my shoulder and helped you to my car. No one asked if I knew you or stopped me. It was almost as if no one would notice if something terrible happened to you.
