A girl like me doesn’t get stood up, so I was baffled as I waited at the bar for my date. I should have known better than to tempt fate with an impending disaster by agreeing to a first date on Valentine’s day. Some things just shouldn’t be done. The dimly lit bistro had gone all out for the holiday. Beautiful red roses accented every table, and candlelight flickered between the sets of lovers who were sharing a quiet, intimate meal.
I rechecked my phone; no text, no call, not even a status update from my would-be gentleman caller. “I’m sure he’s stuck in traffic.” The handsome bartender remarked while refilling my champagne glass, obviously reading the confusion on my face. “That has to be the only reason a man would be dumb enough to keep you waiting.”
