Now that my kids were off to school, I was sitting on my back porch with my bestie just enjoying the peace and quiet. My friend Angie had just dropped off her own kids and now it was girl time. The two of us were discussing a little bit of everything, from raising kids to the latest fashions. And, as always, there was a tad of girlie gossip, something usually unavoidable. Although I am still single and loving it, Angie had been married for a number of years, something that – quite honestly – never stopped her from her adventurous ways. What this girl needed was a special pill.
“After this whole pandemic thing, I am so glad that Steve is back in the office. I missed our time together,” she was telling me.
A special pill
As I was running out of my coffee, I got up to get more. “Do you need some more, too?” I looked at Angie.
As I refilled both of our drinks, I added a little something extra to both cups: whiskey. I looked through the window at Angie because she knew exactly what I was up to. It struck me once again – far from the first time – just how incredibly beautiful that Angie was. My opposite in every way, my bestie had it going on. Of course, she would have said the same about me, and we would have shared a little giggle. It just did not make any sense to me that Steve had a “little” problem that had plagued them for close to a year now, telling me a while back how Steve was just not up to doing his job anymore.
As I walked back to my porch with the two cups of “coffee”, I broached the subject with Angie. “How are things now with little Steve?”
“I still can’t believe it. They have ran so many tests and found absolutely nothing.” I just shook my head in acknowledgment.
